So, google is throwing up all sorts of worthless information at me right now, so I'm getting sorta desperate:

Is there a walk-in orthopedic clinic (preferably NW DC or nearby MD) with x-rays on-site?

ETA: I got one, thanks. Well, thank you to those of you who were actually trying to help.

I'm looking for ideas of things to do in DC on New Years Eve. Does anyone have any suggestions? I know about the Eliot/DC101 event. Also, if anyone has any suggestions of any cheap decent hotels it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

09:09 pm - flags at half staff
here's a question for those of you who know more then i about such things. when riding my bike around town today i noticed that several places had their flags at half staff (white house, treasury, FAA, were the ones i noticed) but it was not universal. this seemed odd to me, when important folks die, say teddy kennedy, all the flags were down. i assume these were down for the sad events at fort hood but i wondered if anyone knew why only some of them were down. the flag code doesn't list death of soldiers (other then on memorial day) as a reason for half mast and i understand that this is simply an act of respect but the government likes to follow the flag code pretty closely so i wondered if anyone knew what was up.  or what the logic in your department was for going half staff or not.

thanks

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows of a nice place for tattoo dermabrasion or excision? I am not looking for a laser removal. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks!

01:54 pm - Bless my poor tired traveler's soul
I guess this is probably what I wanted -- a winter of travel, discovery and intregue. But holy hell does it hurt a wallet.
I haven't been able to sit still in Lake Mary, although I love being home. But I'm fidgeting and apparently that can only be remedied by moving moving moving. So here we go.
I got called for an interview in Eugene for an emergency dispatcher job that would start in May. It's the one job I really really want -- the pay is great, benefits, the whole deal, and housing in Eugene is pretty cheap. So I have customarily taken this one necessary trip to Eugene Oregon to a level of complete elaboration. Because I started thinking, well, if I'm going to be in Eugene then I may as well get there a week early, drive to Humboldt to see Eddie, and if I'm going to do that it's only 6 hours to see Ben in San Jose. And of course I book the flight through Portland because it's cheaper (it is) but I forget that I'm still 24 and I have to pay an extra $25 a day because I'm apparently a liability. I called the Enterprise folks and they said there really isn't any way around this, although I forgot to ask if the extra $25 a day would be considered insurance, because it sure as fuck should be.
And then since that's in December and I'm not really in a position to get a job since my family and I are going to Italy in two weeks, I figure - what the hell - I'll drive up to Tallahassee to see some people, and then that's only 6 hours to New Orleans. You'd think I'd learn.
And then I decided that my room needs to be painted on my own dime, since my dad's not going to get around to it. You know it always seems that when you have money in the bank that it's inexhaustible, and by January 1 I'm sure I'll finally realize that is sure as fuck isn't and it's time to rock some serving job again.
But in the meantime, the weather is beautiful, wish you were here.

01:29 pm - We've passed 10% unemployment according to BLS
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released their "Employment Situation" for October 2009 report this morning.

There are lots of news stories covering the data. Here it is from the BLS website direct:

The report's Table of Contents
Summary

Some snippets:

The unemployment rate rose from 9.8 to 10.2 percent in October, and nonfarm
payroll employment continued to decline (-190,000), the U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics reported today. The largest job losses over the month were in con-
struction, manufacturing, and retail trade.

In October, the number of unemployed persons increased by 558,000 to 15.7
million. The unemployment rate rose by 0.4 percentage point to 10.2 percent,
the highest rate since April 1983. Since the start of the recession in
December 2007, the number of unemployed persons has risen by 8.2 million,
and the unemployment rate has grown by 5.3 percentage points.

The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) was
little changed over the month at 5.6 million. In October, 35.6 percent of
unemployed persons were jobless for 27 weeks or more.

According to the BLS Regional and State Employment and Unemployment Summary for September 2009, the local unemployment rates then were:

D.C. 11.4%
Maryland 7.2%
Virginia 6.7%

Best off is North Dakota at 4.2%
Worst off is Michigan at 15.3%

Anyone know what is going on at 16th and Kennedy NW?  I was on the bus going up 16th street and at least 30 police vehicles drove by with sirens blaring.

Let's say I'd like to throw a party for a group of 50-100 people and I want to rent a place out for the night. I'd prefer somewhere in MoCo, but DC would work as well. Theoretically, this is for Halloween next year (I'm tired of getting noise complaints from neighbors on Saturday, on Halloween). The main requirements are this:

1. Must be within easy walking distance of a metro.
2. Noise is not an issue (either it's well soundproofed or it's not surrounded by people that care).
3. A party space for a group of 50-100 (and all that entails: bathrooms, space, etc).
4. Allow us to supply the food and drink (I don't want to have to buy out an entire bar)
5. A price that is at least semi-reasonable

Other qualifications
1. Allow us to party later than 1 (or 2)
2. Some amount of parking available

I'm honestly not sure where or how to start looking. Would hotels, with their ballrooms be a good start? I'd rather not pay an arm and a leg, these aren't incredibly huge parties, and I don't want to start charging cover, but I am sick and tired of having noise complaints and cops for what are really not terribly wild parties. Can anyone recommend a place, or know who I can talk to about this? I'm looking in general, not just for Halloween, as I sometimes throw events, and it would be nice to have a space that I could do it in.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

02:25 pm - Wild Blue's Blueberry Pancake Ale
I had this the other night at Looking Glass, and want to pick up a 6-pack (or more!). Anyone know anywhere I can purchase Wild Blue's Blueberry Pancake Ale? I know Wonderland has it as well, but I'd like to get some more.

Checked D'Vines in CH; no dice.

Thanks!

(PS: I totally recommend trying this; it tastes not just like a blueberry but a blueberry pancake. It is nonsensically delicious.)

08:32 pm - protective gear wanted
Not sure if this is allowed, I couldn't tell by the info page. have already tried craigslist. I was wondering if anyone here has adult kneepads, elbow pads, or a skate helmet I could borrow, have, or buy? Thanks!

04:32 pm - pineapple mint?
Hey all --

I'm looking for either a cutting of or an established pineapple mint plant. Does anyone know where I can find one in DC or MD? The shops I've been to so far have mostly specialized in flowers and not herbs.
